Yeah, so, Yo SDs are pretty much the cutest things to exist. Ever. I die. And I was lame and didn't get the photo light out, but here are a couple more dingily-lit pics with Coriander. (Matching outfits! I figure I need to get it out of my system now as no set of human children will ever let me do that :) ( three more )And let's just ignore the fact that 'Ander's, like, radioactive orange in comparison. I actually kind of like Coriander's discoloration; it's close to my skin color. | | Thursday, June 29th, 2006 | | 9:12 pm |
Things I may not have mentioned: I'm in Anaheim right now waiting for AX. If you're here, too, drop me a line or give me a call. | | Saturday, June 10th, 2006 | | 2:17 pm |
Near-instant dress: The skirt is the hem of an old shirt, the bodice is the sleeve. Took about ten minutes all told :) ( few more )...Sist may be Georgia Lane. Or possibly Karuna. | | Saturday, June 3rd, 2006 | | 6:59 pm |
Does anyone here do or know someone who does LA FCS? If so, how much are the minis running these days? | | Saturday, May 27th, 2006 | | 8:11 pm |
Does anyone here have a non-tiny lati doll? I'm curious what their bodies are like; I've never seen one in person. I'm absolutely in love with the promo pics for their new boys. They're *exactly* what I've been looking for in a boy doll, probably even better than the F21 (...that's the new number, right? I don't recall now...) I'm going to wait until there are some owner pictures knowing how tragically misleading promo shots can be sometimes but since I'm also really fussy about bodies I'm curious about their quality there, too. I love their Cara, too, but getting her would mean kicking Sist or Coriander out. ...Poor Sist, still improperly strung, unsanded, unnamed, and crappily painted. Maybe she won't be sticking around so long after all -_-; | | Thursday, May 4th, 2006 | | 4:58 pm |
Ee, someone's in the 98131 Post Office distribution center! She should be here tomorrow! (...Which means I won't get her until Sat >.<) (And I was totally, completely, wholly apathetic about this until just this second. I guess that blows the 'selling her for cash' option :P) | | Friday, February 24th, 2006 | | 6:31 pm |
YJ links: Lovely! Proof that Fia really needs darker eye makeup! The eyes on this mold are really striking, I think. Wish I could get her redone by Dark Cradle or somesuch. I can't decide if I like this mold or if she looks like a pedo's dream. FEMME LINK! HAHAHAHAHA... NO. Ema... as Emma OMGIDIE. She makes such a perfect Emma. If I didn't already love Ema I certainly do now. Want one. To dress as Emma. More Ema -- I mistook her for Anais for a second in this wig. She has kind of an Anais-esque nose in profile? V. pretty, I think. Oh, and while I'm thinkin' of it -- anybody know what the dates for the upcoming dolpa are? | | Saturday, January 21st, 2006 | | 4:54 pm |
Ugh. Why must I fall in love with a doll I strongly disliked when it was released? I don't need my money diverted any more directions, thank you very much. I think I will have to force myself to resist; I don't make enough money for this >.>; (Although I've noticed it takes new dolls to keep my interest really high. This only works if I'm willing to sell, though, which apparently I'm not. Pfft. I love the ones I've got but it's been... like... 9 months since I got Coriander. Need new blood.) I missed Hewitt twice today, which is good. Buying a doll just for the outfit (which I LOVE) makes me feel a little ill even if I would plan on reselling the doll immediately. Besides, I forgot to renew my credit card so I'd have to put him on debit. I dunno if my dad even pays attention to my account, but he's still on there and in case he does I don't really want a $550 purchase showing up on there. So anyway, I still adore that outfit. If you've got a Hewitt and plan to unload the outfit, let me know. And, a little surprisingly, I like the new F28. Not enough to own one, but it's a nicer head than I thought it was. I also like this custom Kun. Kun always looks so wistful. | | Sunday, January 15th, 2006 | | 10:53 am |
Coriander's eyeball has been found and returned to its rightful place inside her head! I was so happy I found it; the eyeball has caused much angst during the 2 weeks it's been missing. Ben lost it when he rearranged my sewing room (I had left it on my desk) and I couldn't get mad because he'd bought me a new table and I couldn't let him buy me a new pair for the same reason. But I never change my dolls' eyes, I guess, so I hated looking at her with blue acrylics. It was driving me nuts. But yeay, now she's whole again! The 1.5 hours of searching were worth it ^^;; I was going to ask if anyone local was going to the little meetup at Oasis, but considering that it starts in about an hour I suppose I'll either see you there or I won't ^^; I'll probably get there around 12:30 with 'Ander and El in tow. | | Wednesday, January 4th, 2006 | | 10:23 am |
Iiiiii've got an interview today! It's a temp gig only (the job I'd be doing is actually already hired for ^^;) but an extended one of roughly 3 months and it pays signifigantly better than my last job. I'd be working only 8 hrs a week more than I was at DSI but my paychecks would be more than twice as big ;_; Plus it would be a professional reference for my resume, which I really need. I have no idea if I'll actually get it (I interview really, really poorly most of the time) but here's to hopin'. If I don't get that, my temp agency dude is going to give me a 1.5 month data entry gig with the athletics department (no interview required) ;p Still pays as much in regular wage as I got for overtime at DSI, though. Either way, knowing I can pay rent next month is a huge relief. I actually got up before 11:00 today because facing the world was a less overwhelmingly petrifying prospect >.>; At any rate, is there any news on these new Volks kits other than what's on the webpage? (Which is pitifully little.) Are they 1/6? From the roundness of their bodies I'm guessing they can't fit any premade clothing which is too bad. I kinda want one... They're cute. They're also a bit pricey at $43 plus ($20 Volks base?) shipping. Eh.. I dunno. I don't like Pullips so I don't know if I'd like these, but they are quite charming. The painted and dressed one is terribly adorable. | | Monday, January 2nd, 2006 | | 3:48 pm |
Happy New Year-type thing. I've returned from California but I took an internet break while I was gone. If something's gone down in the last 8 or 9 days that I need to know about, lemme know here :P In the realm of YJ: There are no words. (Well, there ARE words -- such as, 'damn, somebody finally clocked Jon Benet Ramsey in the right eye' but I think I'll leave it at 'no words.') Shinku should reeeeally be an MSD. I'm not sure how I'm supposed to feel about this but I think he creeps me out. I think. Something's just not right here but I can't put my finger on it. Engrish FTW! My favorite Engrish is often the kind that's gramatically correct (like the first caption on these photos) but totally left field. I'm sure that's exactly what this girl is imagining. I also love the indecision between "Barbie murders" and "Baebie murders" as, really, they're both great. I also love this outfit. It's prep-fabulous. (Is this a Nemu? She's adorable.) ...And Hannah, since I know you're probably lurking here at least sporadically -- Ihateyou. Ihateyou and your Blue-Fairy-Talking. Want her, can't afford her. BOO. XP | | Saturday, December 24th, 2005 | | 2:57 pm |
Ee, frzndaqiri I got your card yesterday. ^_^ I was wondering who it was from because I didn't recognize the name or address. Love the picture -- Sonya is such a pretty girl (not that I'm biased or anything :P You got an expression on her that I can never get on Coriander, though. Must be the personality difference? ...) ...And I never thought this would be something I'd obsess over, but I can't decide who to take on vacation! I need to bring someone to keep me company; originally I was going to bring Coriander, but now I'm looking at poor, ignored Elio. I haven't played with him in weeks (months?). I also wouldn't have to worry about messing up his wig in transit and he's easier to handle than Coriander because he's solid (and less posable.) He's missing a shoe, though, poor boy. He's only got one pair, and the left shoe is missing. Granted, Coriander is missing a shoe, as well, but at least she's got a backup pair. Hn. Want to bring both! :P And Happy Holiday to y'all, and a belated Birthday to Fia (Dec. 16.) I remembered, but didn't have time to take a happy birthday pic for her. Likewise Happy Birthday to all her Jun Tachibanae sisters ^^ | | Friday, December 16th, 2005 | | 1:47 pm |
Usamimi! XD ( 7 more bunny ears )So... are the ears a bit much? Maybe the ears are a bit much ^^; They fit with the print, though! This took hours to make, but I'm fairly happy with it. I thought about making another one or two for sale, but I dunno if my attention span is long enough ^^; Sleeveless dresses take quite a bit more work but I finally figured out how to do the shoulders (if I do them like a person-sized dress it's too bulky, even if I clip out as much excess fabric as possible.) I'm glad the stacked kick pleats came out though (there are four -- two in the front, two in the back -- I thought they'd poof out but they stay in pretty well.) | | Thursday, December 15th, 2005 | | 10:13 pm |
Just my charming, charming girl ^-^ (I don't like my new camera; this is the only photo that looks even semi-decent out of 42 ~_~ It doesn't like artificial light, even color neutral light. Even my old crap camera worked with a shop lamp! Augh. This one does take pics a whole lot faster, though.) | | Friday, December 9th, 2005 | | 11:45 am |
Yes? No? One? Both? None? Quitting my job (though haven't told anyone!) after next week -- should consider that? Sell someone? Count on Xmas money? Sell 'em all because this is a terrible hobby for me? >.>; ...I wind up loathing this hobby a remarkably large percentage of the time. | | Wednesday, November 30th, 2005 | | 11:04 am |
What a fabulous way to start off a pleasantly cold Wednesday morning -- mail call at 9:45 am! (I went downstairs in my pajamas, completely unkept but I got my package without having to wait a day and walk to the post office :) I tried to take some pics but they didn't come out very well because I had to contend with bipolar weather and rapidly shifting light. But, you know, I'm going to post them anyway. (You know, our view of "Historic Trinity Church" would be a lot nicer if SEAGULLS WOULD STOP POOPING ON IT. They got the window next to it weeks ago and this lovely splotch showed up last night >.>;) ( 6 more pics )I'm really impressed with this outfit. I've got me-sized stuff from BSSB, of course, but it's still really neat seeing the same level of detail shrunk down to Fia's scale. I don't have the bag or the shoes, of course, but it was a small sacrifice to make to actually get this set ('specially since I wouldn't use the bag and am not wild about the shoes ^^;). I couldn't justify spending 24000Y on a full set so when this popped up with a really low BIN, I pounced ^_^ It was perfect timing -- the auction had been up for less than an hour when I snagged it *L* I'm still pretty excited because I never thought I'd get one of these, let alone for such a wonderful price ^___^* It's so nice that I might start stalking around for a pink or white set. (Possibly for future-Kun who's back on the "maybe possibly someday getting" list?...) | | Thursday, November 24th, 2005 | | 11:16 pm |
I'm going to assume the answer here is "no", but has anyone ordered directly through Alchemic Labo before? (via someone in Japan, of course). The preorder is sneaking up and it's reignited my little passion for the odd-looking dolls. And, see, the price difference between Crescent and direct-from-Alchemic is nothing to sniff at, especially for someone on my income (which, no need to remind me, is non-existant after I get fired in less than a month! >.<) But anyway, the retail price is only ~$320... $320 vs. ~$450-ish from Crescent (I believe it was $490 last time, but the exchange rate has gotten better so I assume the price has dropped a bit?). I haven't even asked Cheryl if she'd do me this mega huge favor yet, but I DID make her two costumes for free (not that I did it just to play the quid-pro-quo card... :P). I think she'd do it, but I only want to ask if it would be a simple procedure -- she reads Chinese but speaks relatively little Japanese as far as I know. I don't know what's involved in paying them, either. She's got a Japanese bank account because she works for the government but I dunno if it's like ordering something in the US with a CC or if there's a lot more to it than that. If I'm going to ask I need to find out quickly, though. Also -- anyone with the Unoa Freak mag -- what do the new bodies look like? I'm a bit confused on the "version 1.5" versus 2.0. Is it like a test run of a not quite up-to-snuff body? Seems odd. Of course if I want to wait for the full fledged 2.0 that would mean another year of waiting, easily, and I suppose there's not a lot to be worried about quality-wise with any new Unoa body. They're nifty little things. | | Tuesday, November 8th, 2005 | | 6:05 pm |
300,000Y Madoka FTW! (...I mean -- wow. I've always wondered a little why Madoka is the most popular/valuable Volks doll. She's okay, but I wouldn't buy her even as a standard.) Björk is for sale! I haven't seen Björk around in foooorever! I would love to buy her (partially or largely for Ben, who gets a big kick out of her) but I couldn't afford a body for her. If she stays cheap enough I might get her to practice painting, though. (Wonder if she'll stay cheap? I don't think this is a hugely popular head but it's also not very common anymore.) ...And I also just realized that now is the ideal time to buy Volks dolls 'cause the exchange rate is so fab. minis/SD10s/SD13s are only $267/$490/$600 right now! ...$267/$490/$600!! Let's see people complain about how "expensive" Volks is in light of that. (Luts kids are $265 and don't come with wigs.) Why is it that whenever I'm spending a lot at Volks the exchange rate is around 100= 1 but when I'm not in a position to, oh, say, order Kun (or Syo, for that matter. Love him, too) the exchange rate jumps to a very cushy 117.22 =1? Ah, the cosmic injustice of it all :P (If the exchange rate had been this in March/April, I would've saved $80-$90 each on Elio and Coriander. Ooooh well.) | | Monday, November 7th, 2005 | | 10:49 pm |

So it looks like the LA LEs will be impossible to get without attending the opening. Mai is also exactly what I thought she'd be -- $800. Tai is a bit cheaper at $710 (though it still seems like she could be slightly cheaper, seeing as how JunT was only $750!) I suppose this makes sense as Mai comes with a fancier wig (though not, apparently, the one pictured?) and a more elaborate kimono. At least she has a waist joint. If I'm realistic, bringing home someone new means offloading someone I have. Also realistically, I think I'd lose money on Coriander. SDCs just aren't in demand, and Kaede has more fans than Kurenai (though, again, I can't see why!) And Elio -- Elio's my little boy! :/ I am pretty darn happy with the dolls I've got. I suppose it's not necessary at all to add (generally it doesn't bother me that both my minis were really-really expensive, but I do think about it at times like these ~_~;) ...Especially since work will probaby evaporate immediately after Christmas. ...And especially since the lottery admission system sounds really time consumming and really, *really* frustrating. But... but... Liz would make such a cute sister for Coriander! >.>; (Side thought: Do you think it's terribly naive of me to think that there won't be THAT many people at the Volks opening? There can't be thousands of LA locals wanting to attend, and I'd guess less people would be willing to spend hundreds of dollars to travel from other places around the US (as opposed to spending that money to go to a dolpa or SD con.) You know -- kinda like when Haute Doll sold Isao and Jun: every Super Dollfie fan in the US who wanted either of those dolls and had the money could've bought one. It took hours and hours for Jun to sell out, and there were even a couple Isaos left the next morning! That never would've happened in Japan or at an online after event. The demand here is sizable enough to support a store (Volks is guessing?) but not nearly as sizable as in Japan. I guess it's also equally safe to assume, though, that the run of dolls for the opening is signifigantly smaller than the run of dolls for a dolpa. That would be around 600 dolls just for Mai, Tae, and Shizu.) But anyway, all this is distracting me from the real purpose of this post, which was simply to comment on the fact that this doll either has a flaming case of pink eye or attempted to eat cheetos with her eyelids. Also: This Toppi repaint reminds me of Ramona Quinby. I think she's cuter with dark hair like that; makes her look about 7 or 8 instead of 5. Her lips are way too mature for her face, but wow -- gorgeous Kun from Violet Poem. And lastly -- I'm a bit taken with ISMY. I refuse to buy a non-Volks doll without owner pics, though; that's been my hard and fast rule since I dodged the DOD bullet. ("OMG, I was wanting to order *THAT*?!") I've heard preorders are being taken for her -- does that mean her production run is limited? (Not that I can even begin to afford her anyway!) |
